News Soundtrack (Extension)

Task Description: This term in extension we have been using an amazing app named GarageBand. We used this app to create a soundtrack for PENN (Pt England News Network).  We had three options for segments like, main, sport and weather. We were not able to choose inquiry because Mr Jacobsen created that sound track. The segment I chose was sport. The kind of soundtrack I wanted to do was a energetic, upbeat and entertaining.

(Brainstorming) Before beginning this project I wanted to first brainstorm because I thought that I could help me create my soundtrack and it would make it so much easier. I brainstormed by using google docs. I wrote what instruments and beats I would like to use in my soundtrack. I am so glad I did this because it helped SO much.

(GarageBand) The first thing I did on GarageBand was figuring out how to even use it. I found various beats, vocals and instruments that I could use for my soundtrack. I added many beats and interesting instruments. I thought it sounded very cool. My process using GarageBand was pretty stressful because it seem very challenging to find the right beat and the right vocals to add in. The instruments I used to create this soundtrack was a classic electric piano, Ambition strings, guitar, kick beat and one vocal. The genre I was looking for was Rock/Blue and Reggaeton Pop. I really enjoyed using GarageBand it was SO much fun.

(Reflection & Conclusion) I really enjoyed doing this task. I loved using the app GarageBand it was so helpful and so fun to use, I will definitely recommend using this. I am so proud of myself. I hope that you all enjoy checking my soundtrack out, just like I did. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog, thank you.

News Channel/ Radio Music Research

Task Description: This term in extension, we have been learning all about news broadcast music. We started by diving into why music is used in news broadcasts. We even listened to different news broadcasts from various countries, with each country featuring a unique musical style. Next, we identified the types of instruments we heard in the different music pieces. Then we watched “Kea Kids News,” a broadcast specifically for children. It gives kids the opportunity to learn about current world events. Finally, we used Google Slides to brainstorm instruments we could use in segments for PENN (Pt England News Network). This task was so much fun, especially since we get to create our news music on GarageBand! Here’s an example of what our music for PENN sounds like. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog. Thank you!

KPMG Thank you Letter (Justine)

Dear Justine,

I was just wanting to give all of my thanks to you and KPMG for all of the amazing activities you have prepared for us. I had such a magnificent time at KPMG. I loved all of the generosity and joy from all of the staff in the company. The experiences throughout all of these terms were incredible. My friends and I had such a great time.

My favourite time when I was at KPMG was probably term two because we got to learn all about space. I really enjoyed all of the activities we got to participate in, it was SO much fun. My favourite activity was definitely using clay to create aliens. I loved all of the different ideas given from each one of us. I also really enjoyed all of the food. It was so DELICIOUS!!

What seemed really challenging this year at KPMG was working together with my group. Especially because of what happened this term. This term my group and I didn’t work well together to create our song and choreography. Mrs Burton gave us the idea to come all together and brainstorm on what song we could sing. I really liked this idea because it really helped us a lot. It especially helped me to open and contribute more to my group.

Thank you so much for taking your time to read this letter. I am really looking forward to coming back next year to KPMG for another adventure. I hope that you have a lovely day.

Sincerely,

Catherine

Year 7 student at Pt England School

Stop Motion Movie (Extension)

Task Description: Last week, my group and I created a short stop-motion movie for our extension class. My teammates were YiYi and Emzjull.First, we had to choose a topic for our film. I came up with the idea, “Stop, Think, and Do.” We headed outside to take pictures for our movie’s scenes. For the first scene, YiYi pretended to climb out of the school gate. Next, Emzjull’s scene was at the park, where she was going to throw some bark at YiYi. For my scene, I was going to be kicking a ball under the Te Kapua. Once we were done recording, it was time to edit. We used iMovie to put our movie together. Editing was so much fun because I learned many new and creative things I could do with the app.I hope you all enjoy our stop-motion movie! Please remember to leave a positive comment on my blog. Thank you.

Film Festival Making (Extension)

Introduction: This term in extension we have been creating and planning our film festival movie. To begin this movie we had to first brainstorm, storyboarding and thinking on what movie we should create.

Movie ideas: The first thing that we had to do was think of a movie to create. There were lots of amazing ideas given from each person in the classroom including Mrs Burton. What we mostly wanted in our movie was parody and satire. The movie idea that Emzjull, YiYi and I wanted to do was called ”The shared dream ”. The movie was based on squid games. To figure out what movie we are going to do. Mrs Burton created a goggle form for us to vote on what movie we wanted to do. Sadly our movie didn’t get chosen. Why? well because we found out that the movie was going to be too long because of how many games that we would have to play. The movie idea that had the most votes was ”From the start”. Which is a love song. For this movie we were going to be singing too things we love instead of people we love.

Parody & Satire: Before brainstorming we had to first research on what parody and satire means. How we researched is by going onto goggle and asking what it means. What parody means is imitating a song into your own lyrics. The meaning of satire is making fun of something or someone to make them look funny. If you would like to check out our goggle Slides then just look down below.

Brainstorming/Storyboarding: After doing all of that we got to finally begin brainstorming. To brainstorm we had to get into groups of 4 or 5. My group of four was YiYi, Emzjull and Jordyn. What we had to first do was choose lyrics from the song that we were going to want to act in. My partner was YiYi and Emzjull was partners with Jordyn. Emzjull and Jordyn were wanting to sing about netball. Then YiYi and I wanted to sing to KFC because we LOVE KFC SO MUCH. How we brainstormed was by drawing scenes onto paper that we were wanting to do in the movie. Brainstorming was so much fun.

Acting:Finally acting time. Me and YiYi got to record our scene in the staffroom. While acting I was feeling really uncomfortable because everyone was watching me. I just don’t think acting is for me. Even though I still think YiYi and I did very well. What YiYi and I had to act out was that I had to grab the KFC bucket then YiYi grabbed it. I got very mad and then I gave her a BIG SIDE EYE. What then happens is that YiYi suddenly becomes a chicken by wearing a chicken hat. That’s when I had to act in shock. Which I was REALLY bad at.

Editing: Me, Emzjull and YiYi got the opportunity to edit our film festival movie. Editing was so much fun. I really enjoyed learning new things along the way. What I learnt was how to slow down the video if needed or even to make the video faster. What I thought was very annoying was that sometimes when I was trying to edit the animations into the video it was very hard to figure out why it wasn’t appearing.

Conclusion: Overall I honestly think that I did a great job this term. I think that next time I will show better acting skills and I will build up my confidence. I hope that you all enjoy checking out my film festival making task. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog, thank you. Microbit AI Training ( Extension )

Task Description: This morning in extension we have been learning how to train microbit on AI. For this task we had to get into a group of three or four. My group of YiYi and Emzjull. Before beginning this task we had to first watch a video of how to use a micro bit AI training app. This app was going to help us train the microbit to learn different types of moves in action. My group’s action moves were over and under arm throwing. Instead of just teaching the microbit to recognise hand movement we wanted to also teach it to recognise cultural dance moves. Like Tongan, Myanmar and Niue. We repeated the moves while the Micro:bit collected motion data, the AI model learned to recognize the patterns and respond to each action when it is needed too. It was such a creative way to combine technology with our cultures through dance. I really enjoyed doing this task. I hope that you all enjoy checking out my microbit AI Training task. If you would like to check out some of the data we collected then look down below. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog, thank you.

Microbit Scenarios ( Extension )

Task Description: Three weeks ago for extension we have been researching and learning all about micro bit and ways it can help us in life. To do this task we had to get into a group of two or three. My group was YiYi and Emzjull. To begin this task we had to create a micro bit to remind us to drink water. An example of this is that we wanted our micro bit to be strapped onto our wrist like a watch. The micro bit will then start beeping when it detects the temperature and sunlight to see how hot it is so that we can drink water. Doing this task was so much especially working as a group to brainstorm all of our ideas. I hope that you all enjoy checking out my groups microbit scenarios. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog, thank you.

Gravitational Force ( Extension Project )

Task Description: This term for inquiry we have been learning all about space, ”Beyond the Sky”. In Extension we have been researching all about gravitational force and ways it can affect us in life. To begin this project you would have to find a partner to work with. My partner was Emzjull. To start this project we had to first find a movie and video that shows G-Force. Then after doing that we had to then find a text and a news article that shows G-Force as well. To read our text and news article you would have to click on the link that says TEXT and NEWS ARTICLE. Doing this task was so much fun because I learnt lots of things about gravitational force and ways it can affect us in life. I hope that you all enjoy checking out my goggle Slides. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog, thank you.

Washing Machine Experiment ( Extension )

Last week wednesday at around nine o clock we got to meet a lady named ”Jennifer”. Jennifer was a lady who came from a company named ”fisher & Paykel”. The company fisher and paykel creates washing machines. Jennifer’s job was a product development engineer. A Product Development Engineer develops new products for companies, and participates in all phases of product development including research, design, production and marketing. To begin this lesson Jennifer was asking us what kind of things we can wash in a washing machine. Many of us were saying clothes, towels and tea towels. But what we found out was that you can wash your shoes in a washing machine as well!!. But shoes made with materials like canvas, nylon, cotton and polyester are usually safe to wash in a washing machine. These materials are durable and shouldn’t be damaged by laundry detergent. But the kind of shoes you cannot wash is any shoes that are made from animal-based fabrics, like leather or suede because the agitator and high water pressure can damage the shoes and cause them to lose their shape. The next thing we got to do next was see what a washing looks like inside and how the things inside could help the motor move. This part was really fun because I learnt how it works inside and what things help the motor move to start the washing machine. After doing all of that we got to begin our science experiment which was finding out what type of washing machines can clean the cloth the most using plastic bottles. To do this experiment we had to first figure out how much detergent we were going to put into four separate bottles. Each bottle would have a way you would have to shake it. Like for example bottle one was high which means we had to shake the bottle really hard. Bottle two high and low which means to shake not as hard. Bottle three low and high which is not as hard. Lastly bottle four low and low which means you would have to shake the bottle really gently. To start this science experiment we had to split into two groups which would have two bottles each. Two people would shake the bottle a few times then pass it to the next person beside them. What was really interesting was that many people were shaking the bottle really differently, for example for the bottle high people were shaking it up and down and others were shaking it sideways. When we were finally finished doing that we got to dry our cloths to see which washing machine/bottles were the cleanest and the dirtiest. After drying everything we found out that bottle one was the cleanest because it was high and the dirtiest was bottle four which was low. Bottle two was dirtier and bottle three was cleaner. Doing this experiment and exploring all about washing machines was so much fun. I hope that you all enjoy checking out some of these pictures of how much we have got up to. Classroom @ KPMG

Task Description: This morning in extension we have been researching all about KPMG. Before beginning this task Yi Yi, Emzjull and I wanted to all be in a group so that we can all work together. For this task we had to find out many things about KPMG because we were going to visit them in a couple of weeks. To start this task we had to first figure out what there logo looks like. Then we had to find out what does KPMG stand for and when was the company, KPMG, founded. After answering and researching all of the answers we then had to find out Why do we go and spend time at KPMG. This question was quite confusing because I never really knew why we spend time there, but since I now know what they do and how they help us with our education. I hope that you all enjoy checking out my KPMG task. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog, thank you.
