Recount: Marshmallow Challenge

Task description: This week we have been learning to create a recount adding lots of descriptive language. We had a fun activity to complete called the marshmallow challenge. After completing the challenge we had to write a recount about our experience, check out my recount below. Please leave a positive comment on my blog.

This week in room 10 we were planning to create a fun marshmallow challenge. For this class on air Miss Parrant wanted us to have a fun activity to work as a team. This is  for our make it work term 4 focus question for this term. In this activity we had to get into a group of how many we wanted, but my group was from other tables but we still thought that we were still work as a team. Here are there names were Maddison, Sophia, Alepina, Emzjull, and me.

Before we started Miss Parrant had to quickly present what items we needed, we had ten marshmallows with 20 spaghetti sticks. Then we had to start figuring out what our design should be. At this point my whole group started saying random ideas that popped out of their head, but the thing was we had to think of a way for our marshmallow to stay standing like a normal tower. While we were thinking of what design we should do Emzjull’s suggested was to break the spaghetti into little pieces as well as the marshmallows and build them into a tower getting bigger and BIGGER.

When we were trying to figure out what our idea should be Maddison and I thought if we could create a tower by using the spaghetti sticks and marshmallows not broken and then we had to create the tower going like one spaghetti stick had 2 marshmallows stuck onto it and do the same on another stick. After that we wanted to add two sticks onto the top of the two sticks on the bottom and just keep on going until the tower will get taller and TALLER.

We all decided to go with Emzjull’s idea in the end and broke up all the sticks and marshmallows. Our tower did get to stand for a little while but as we waited for the timer to countdown our tower kept falling apart. Once our 15 minutes were up we kind of had a tower but we had to hold it so it would stand.

This was a really fun activity that helped us to work as a team. I hope we can do more experiences like this for our term 4 focus make it work.

Year 5 and 6 Camp Recount

Task description: A few weeks ago we had year 5 and 6 camp on our school field. This week for writing we had to create a recount about our camp experience. Check out my camp experience below:

On Wednesday morning it was camp but on Wednesday I was not feeling well so could not go on day one. Tuesday morning day two I was feeling better so went to camp, while all the kids were eating breakfast I had to find out who I was sleeping with and it was Sophia and Maria. When they were all finished eating breakfast Mrs Lagitupu started to call out what our rotation for the day was.

The first rotation for the Tuis was the ‘’Hall Rotation’’. Next in the hall rotation you were allowed to ride scooters and skateboards, also ping pong and even a trampoline. Then, after playing all around the school we had to start practising our camp concert.

After that, we had to eat morning tea. We had to go to Tui’s next rotation and it was ‘’Slip & Slide’’. The water slide was on the top field where we had our slip and slide. To be fair I was feeling a bit afraid to go on the water slide because if you jump then you could get hurt and I did. When I was on the slip & slide I was having a lot of fun because I got to get wet and even mud was all over me.

Finally at camp my most favourite thing at camp was camp concert. The reason why I liked the camp concert it’s because I was proud of my camp group even though we came second on the day. At the camp concert I had a lot of fun because all of the camp groups all participated and had a lot of fun. When the camp concert was over we had to say good night to your parents and family and then go to bed in tents.
