Sub (Changing the second number into a whole number.) 2

Task Description: This week in Room two for maths, we’ve been tackling  subtraction problems with decimals, specifically with tenths and turning them into a whole. In this project, I worked through a mix of straight subtraction questions, but my favourite part was definitely the word problems. It was so much fun solving all of the challenging problems! I had a lot of fun figuring out all the different ways you can use this trick, and I hope you enjoy checking out my solutions and thought process below. Sound of Latin America

Task Description: In team 5 this term’s inquiry, the topic was “Music from Around the World.” Every class had the exciting opportunity to become an expert on a different country or region, learning all about their unique musical styles and heritage. This week room two got the opportunity to head to room four, where we were researching all about music from Latin America. Throughout the past two days we have been learning about the type of rhythms and instruments we hear in Latin American music. What was so awesome was we even got to listen to the music and do these hand movements to the beats we heard. These beats were called ”Dembow Beat”. The Dembow beat is the core, unmistakable rhythm of Reggaeton music, known for its iconic, bouncing “boom-ch-boom-chick” pattern. We had to then create this dembow beat using virtual drums. After all of that we got to then find a song on YouTube and I found the perfect example of the Dembow beat in action. Doing this task was SO much fun, especially because I learnt so many new things about the music from Latin America. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog, thank you.

WALT: Add Tenths ( by making a Whole) 1

Task Description: This week in Room two for maths, we’ve been tackling additional problems with decimals, specifically with tenths. But we didn’t just use boring column addition; we learned a slick new mental math trick! The key strategy was “Making a Whole”—where you change one of the decimal numbers into a whole number to simplify the calculation. It made solving these problems surprisingly fast! In this project, I worked through a mix of straight addition and subtraction questions, but my favourite part was definitely the word problems. It was so satisfying to apply this new strategy to real-life scenarios! I had a lot of fun figuring out all the different ways you can use this trick, and I hope you enjoy checking out my solutions and thought process below. Drop a positive comment and let me know which of the strategies you think is the most efficient! Thanks for reading!

Discovering Japanese Music

Task Description: This week in room three for inquiry we have been discovering Japanese music. We uncovered the unique rhythms, vibrant timbres, and captivating melodies that make this musical style truly special and different from Western traditions. We also learnt about famous instruments used in Japan like taiko, Taiko drumming is all about powerful rhythms and energetic beats! This exciting traditional Japanese music style encourages everyone to join in and feel the music’s vibrant pulse. Another instrument is koto and shakuhachi. The koto and shakuhachi creates a soothing, melodic ambiance in Japanese music. Sometimes it can even sound haunting and terrifying. The task we had to do was create a japanese melody using a virtual piano. I hope that you all enjoy the melody I create. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog, thank you.

Explanation Writing

Task Description: This week for writing we have been learning how to write a explanation writing. For this task we had to learn how to begin with a set up, explain it, show it and finish it. The story I wrote about was about how my school holidays went. I hope that you all enjoy checking out my holiday recount. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog, thank you.

5 Facts (Fijian Language Week)

Task Description: This morning in literacy room five has been researching all about fiji. For this task we had to choose a task from the reading follow up task. The task I chose was the five facts. I researched five facts from the fijian language week slides. I hope that you all enjoy checking out my five facts for fijian language week. Immersion Assembly

Let the Music Play: Our Immersion Assembly Recount

Do you love listening to music? If so, you’ll be interested in our new Inquiry topic for the term: “Let the Music Play” or, in Māori, “Tukua te waiata kia rere”. This topic is all about music as a form of sound art.

The term kicked off right after our regular Team Five assembly with the Immersion Assembly in the hall. This is an important event each term where Mr. Burt and his team introduce our new focus.

The Team Presentations

The first item was a fun, high-energy choreography presented by Mr. Burt, Mr. Jacobsen, and Mr. Somerville. They danced to the song “Golden” from the movie Kpop Demon Hunters. The performance was definitely entertaining and very funny especially for the younger students!

Next, each team presented an item related to the new music theme:

  • Team One showed a video demonstrating that music can be made with anything—they even created a song using cheese scones! They will be exploring how to use everyday items to create unique soundscapes.
  • Team Two’s presentation focused on how music influences our feelings and emotions. Their movie illustrated that songs can evoke a wide range of moods—from sad and happy to downright scary! It was a very interesting and thought-provoking item.
  • Team Three also used a video, demonstrating how to turn simple cups into a complex beat and rhythm. I really enjoyed their movie; it was both hilarious and incredibly entertaining to watch.
  • Team Four explored the theme of mood change. Their movie featured the Team Four teachers and how different songs reflected their shifting feelings throughout the day. It was very enjoyable because the music perfectly matched the moods they were acting out.

The Grand Finale: Team Five’s Game Show

Finally, Team Five wrapped up the assembly with a creative finale. Instead of a movie, they hosted a game show called “Songs from Around the World.”

The contest was Teachers vs. Students, with four students representing Team Five: Isla, Olive, Nate, and Junior. Hosted by Mr. Wiseman and Mr. Moran, the challenge was to correctly identify the country of origin for various songs.

The scoring was intense: points for a correct answer, but a painful points for a wrong one! It was tough—many songs sounded incredibly similar despite being from different countries.

In the end, the teachers won the competition. However, Mr. Wiseman and Mr. Moran generously awarded the victory to the students anyway! Their prize? Packets of gummies.

I truly enjoyed watching all the items presented by each team. I hope you enjoyed checking out my recount of the Immersion Assembly. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog. Thank you!

Community Reflection Video (Inquiry)

Task Description: This term for inquiry we have been learning all about the communities that we belong to. The meaning of community is like a group of people that share the same thing. Some of the communities that I belong to are like my church, family, school and my netball team, the chiefs. For this inquiry task we had to create a video using goggle vids. The video had to be based on what we have been learning about throughout this term. Doing this task was so much fun especially because I learnt so many things about my community and why they are so important to me. I hope that you all enjoy checking out my community reflection video. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog, thank you.

Stop Motion Movie (Extension)

Task Description: Last week, my group and I created a short stop-motion movie for our extension class. My teammates were YiYi and Emzjull.First, we had to choose a topic for our film. I came up with the idea, “Stop, Think, and Do.” We headed outside to take pictures for our movie’s scenes. For the first scene, YiYi pretended to climb out of the school gate. Next, Emzjull’s scene was at the park, where she was going to throw some bark at YiYi. For my scene, I was going to be kicking a ball under the Te Kapua. Once we were done recording, it was time to edit. We used iMovie to put our movie together. Editing was so much fun because I learned many new and creative things I could do with the app.I hope you all enjoy our stop-motion movie! Please remember to leave a positive comment on my blog. Thank you.

Film Festival Making (Extension)

Introduction: This term in extension we have been creating and planning our film festival movie. To begin this movie we had to first brainstorm, storyboarding and thinking on what movie we should create.

Movie ideas: The first thing that we had to do was think of a movie to create. There were lots of amazing ideas given from each person in the classroom including Mrs Burton. What we mostly wanted in our movie was parody and satire. The movie idea that Emzjull, YiYi and I wanted to do was called ”The shared dream ”. The movie was based on squid games. To figure out what movie we are going to do. Mrs Burton created a goggle form for us to vote on what movie we wanted to do. Sadly our movie didn’t get chosen. Why? well because we found out that the movie was going to be too long because of how many games that we would have to play. The movie idea that had the most votes was ”From the start”. Which is a love song. For this movie we were going to be singing too things we love instead of people we love.

Parody & Satire: Before brainstorming we had to first research on what parody and satire means. How we researched is by going onto goggle and asking what it means. What parody means is imitating a song into your own lyrics. The meaning of satire is making fun of something or someone to make them look funny. If you would like to check out our goggle Slides then just look down below.

Brainstorming/Storyboarding: After doing all of that we got to finally begin brainstorming. To brainstorm we had to get into groups of 4 or 5. My group of four was YiYi, Emzjull and Jordyn. What we had to first do was choose lyrics from the song that we were going to want to act in. My partner was YiYi and Emzjull was partners with Jordyn. Emzjull and Jordyn were wanting to sing about netball. Then YiYi and I wanted to sing to KFC because we LOVE KFC SO MUCH. How we brainstormed was by drawing scenes onto paper that we were wanting to do in the movie. Brainstorming was so much fun.

Acting:Finally acting time. Me and YiYi got to record our scene in the staffroom. While acting I was feeling really uncomfortable because everyone was watching me. I just don’t think acting is for me. Even though I still think YiYi and I did very well. What YiYi and I had to act out was that I had to grab the KFC bucket then YiYi grabbed it. I got very mad and then I gave her a BIG SIDE EYE. What then happens is that YiYi suddenly becomes a chicken by wearing a chicken hat. That’s when I had to act in shock. Which I was REALLY bad at.

Editing: Me, Emzjull and YiYi got the opportunity to edit our film festival movie. Editing was so much fun. I really enjoyed learning new things along the way. What I learnt was how to slow down the video if needed or even to make the video faster. What I thought was very annoying was that sometimes when I was trying to edit the animations into the video it was very hard to figure out why it wasn’t appearing.

Conclusion: Overall I honestly think that I did a great job this term. I think that next time I will show better acting skills and I will build up my confidence. I hope that you all enjoy checking out my film festival making task. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog, thank you.
