Art in Web – Step it Up (SLJ)

Task Description: This afternoon I wanted to complete all of the summer learning journey activities I have missed out on. The activity I completed was the ”Art in Web” (step it up) For this task we had to create a spiderweb and spider using paper and a toilet paper roll.  Doing this task was SO much fun, I really enjoyed doing this. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog, thank you. FACT: Why don’t spiderwebs rot?? Spider silk has natural antibiotics and “vinegar-like” properties that stop bacteria and fungi from eating it. This keeps the web strong for days.

Art in the Web – Kick Start (SLJ)

Task Description: This evening I did the summer learning journey. The activity I completed was the ”Art in the Web” (kick start) What we had to do was draw an image of a spiderweb. Then we had to post it onto our blog, leaving at least one interesting fact about spiderwebs. I thought that my drawing turned out amazing, I hope that you think too. Leave a positive comment, BYE. =) Fact: Spider silk, the material that makes up a web, is one of the strongest natural materials on Earth! If you had a rope made of spider silk as thick as a pencil, it would be strong enough to stop a flying jumbo jet!

Teaser Week – Step it Up (SLJ)

Task Description: This morning in Room Two, we have been doing the Summer Learning Journey. We had to complete the ‘Teaser Week – Step it Up’ activity. For this activity, we had to design a critter or creature with superpowers. I created a koala with many superpowers. One of its superpowers is that it can shoot out fire out of its hands, and it has long, sharp claws which can cut and fight others. My favourite superpower overall is definitely that the koala can change colour depending on if it’s cold, hot, mad, or happy. Doing this task was SO much fun. I hope that I am able to do something like this again. Remember to leave a positive comment blog, thank you.`

Teaser Week – Kick Start (SLJ)

Task Description: This afternoon I was wanting to participate in the summer learning journey for 2025-2026. I decided to begin by doing the teaser week kick start. The activity was called Critters and Creatures with superpowers! To do this task we had to choose an animal and create a graphic to share their superpowers. We then had to create a poster based on the creature that we have chosen. We had various options of animals we could choose, I chose the Indian Chameleon. I create a goggle vid with a poster, facts and superpowers that my creature has. Doing this task was so much fun. I hope that you all enjoy checking out my activity. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog, thank you. If you would like to check the summer learning journey app to start blogging too click HERE!

News Soundtrack (Extension)

Task Description: This term in extension we have been using an amazing app named GarageBand. We used this app to create a soundtrack for PENN (Pt England News Network).  We had three options for segments like, main, sport and weather. We were not able to choose inquiry because Mr Jacobsen created that sound track. The segment I chose was sport. The kind of soundtrack I wanted to do was a energetic, upbeat and entertaining.

(Brainstorming) Before beginning this project I wanted to first brainstorm because I thought that I could help me create my soundtrack and it would make it so much easier. I brainstormed by using google docs. I wrote what instruments and beats I would like to use in my soundtrack. I am so glad I did this because it helped SO much.

(GarageBand) The first thing I did on GarageBand was figuring out how to even use it. I found various beats, vocals and instruments that I could use for my soundtrack. I added many beats and interesting instruments. I thought it sounded very cool. My process using GarageBand was pretty stressful because it seem very challenging to find the right beat and the right vocals to add in. The instruments I used to create this soundtrack was a classic electric piano, Ambition strings, guitar, kick beat and one vocal. The genre I was looking for was Rock/Blue and Reggaeton Pop. I really enjoyed using GarageBand it was SO much fun.

(Reflection & Conclusion) I really enjoyed doing this task. I loved using the app GarageBand it was so helpful and so fun to use, I will definitely recommend using this. I am so proud of myself. I hope that you all enjoy checking my soundtrack out, just like I did. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog, thank you.

December’s First Snowflake (Music Video)

Task Description: This term in Inquiry (Team 5), had the exciting task of creating an original piece of music. My group Tiare and Emzjull decided on a festive christmas theme for our song!Creating a song from scratch takes planning and teamwork. Here is a breakdown of the 5-step process we followed over the term to bring our carol to life: (week 1) Brainstorming, deciding on the specific theme (e.g., snow day, family, giving gifts) and the core message of our song. (week 2) Writing the chorus, (Functuation) The most important step! Writing the core lyrics and composing the main melody. (week 3) Building the harmony (Structure) The Composer selects the chord progressions that will support the melody for both the Chorus and the verses. (week 4) Completing the verses (Development) The Lyricist writes the verses, expanding on the chosen theme, and the Composer/Arranger fits them to the existing harmony. (week 5-8) Rehearsal & Recording (Execution)  Practicing all parts together, refining the performance, and preparing for the final recording or live showcase. This task was so much fun I hope that you all enjoy watching it, make sure to check out some of the bloopers I put in. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog, thank you.

Measuring Weight/Mass in Grams and Kilograms

Task Description: This week in room two for maths we have been learning all about measuring weight/mass in grams and kilograms. Doing this task was so much fun especially because me and Tiare finished this SO fast. What seemed really challenging was figuring what objects were grams and kilograms because they looked the exact same. I hope that you all enjoy checking out my maths task. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog, thank you.

Athletics Day (Recount)

Last Friday, our school held Athletics Day at the Pt England grounds. The sun was shining and everyone was excited to start all of the exciting events. There were so many families and teachers who came and supported us.

Non competitive (Fun Games)

The first event that the year seven girls took part in was the non competitive games. The games that we played were dodgeball, softball throw, obstacle run, Scatter ball and volleyball. All of the games were SO MUCH FUN. My favourite overall was definitely volleyball because guess who won??? HINE MOANAA! I really enjoyed working as a team with my blue house friends.

Shot Put

My next rotation after morning tea was shot put. Shot put was a lot of fun. It was really funny to see lots of the girls chuck the heavy ball outside of the line, it was so crack up. At the end I was SO proud of myself because I came FIRST PLACE!! With 30.9 centimeters. Second place went to Tamara with 30.2 and third went to Emzjull with 29.9.

High Jump

After that was the high jump. We started off with 1.3 meters. I was feeling really scared and felt like giving up. Even though I still tried my best, I was really proud of myself. First place went to Alepina and the sportsmanship went to Kree. Overall I was so proud of my best friends Olive for coming second place and for Sia for trying her best.

100 Meter Sprints

Then we moved over to the 100 meter sprints. This was the event that I was most proud of. The first races were for the girls who wanted to compete for the finals. I came first for the first race and came fourth for the finals. First place went to Bella and second place went to Chrissy and third went to Shwe Shwe.

Discus

Discus was our last and final competitive event. It was really fun encouraging each girl that through. I am so proud of all of the girls who competed. The place I ended up in was fourth. First, second and third place went to Bella, Heimata and Kree. I am so proud of all of the girls.

Relays (End of the Day)

At the end of the day we had relays. Relays was the event I was most looking forward to. The year seven to eight relay team from Hine Moana (Blue) were Aria, Pesi and Olive. Olive was running first, Pesi was running second, I was running third and last but not least was Aria. It was a really close race. Hine Moana came second or third place. Overall I am so proud of my team. Aria was such a great house captain, she was so kind and she didn’t pressure us into doing anything we didn’t want to do.

At last, athletics was finally over. I was so exhausted, my legs felt like rubber and my feet felt like a big pile of rocks. As we walked to class Mrs Iloa kindly played the movie Mulan. In the end I am so proud of myself for giving my best and for being bothered  to play all of the events. If you would like to check out more images from our athletics day click HERE!!!!!

News Channel/ Radio Music Research

Task Description: This term in extension, we have been learning all about news broadcast music. We started by diving into why music is used in news broadcasts. We even listened to different news broadcasts from various countries, with each country featuring a unique musical style. Next, we identified the types of instruments we heard in the different music pieces. Then we watched “Kea Kids News,” a broadcast specifically for children. It gives kids the opportunity to learn about current world events. Finally, we used Google Slides to brainstorm instruments we could use in segments for PENN (Pt England News Network). This task was so much fun, especially since we get to create our news music on GarageBand! Here’s an example of what our music for PENN sounds like. Remember to leave a positive comment on my blog. Thank you!

KPMG Thank you Letter (Justine)

Dear Justine,

I was just wanting to give all of my thanks to you and KPMG for all of the amazing activities you have prepared for us. I had such a magnificent time at KPMG. I loved all of the generosity and joy from all of the staff in the company. The experiences throughout all of these terms were incredible. My friends and I had such a great time.

My favourite time when I was at KPMG was probably term two because we got to learn all about space. I really enjoyed all of the activities we got to participate in, it was SO much fun. My favourite activity was definitely using clay to create aliens. I loved all of the different ideas given from each one of us. I also really enjoyed all of the food. It was so DELICIOUS!!

What seemed really challenging this year at KPMG was working together with my group. Especially because of what happened this term. This term my group and I didn’t work well together to create our song and choreography. Mrs Burton gave us the idea to come all together and brainstorm on what song we could sing. I really liked this idea because it really helped us a lot. It especially helped me to open and contribute more to my group.

Thank you so much for taking your time to read this letter. I am really looking forward to coming back next year to KPMG for another adventure. I hope that you have a lovely day.

Sincerely,

Catherine
